 IDENTITY & SELF

Are you overly critical of your behavior when you make small mistakes?

Do you experience a lot of inner conflicts?

Do you often think "I am not good enough"?

Is it difficult to accept yourself unless you are “perfect”?

Do you think of yourself as better than other people and look down on others?

Do you think of yourself as inferior to others, and look up to others?

Do you lack a sense of who you are?

Resilience and Stability Executive Coach

"A self-concept is what I think about yourself.  Your might think:  I'm a top-performer, a compassionate person, an intelligent person, or a person who gives, learns, and evolves.

In NLP we call this your identity and it cascades its way down through beliefs, capabilities, behaviors, and your environment.

Having a well-formed self-concept is important and useful, but this sense of being is a direct experience of my presence, not an idea or belief about who I am. Rather than being self-conscious, this state is one of simply being my authentic self.

You can imagine how much of an impact internal work has an influence on your world... and then everyone else's world!"

Your Self-Concept Is Made Of...

Ideally, your self-concept is aligned with your values, and when it is, you can feel good about that, which is usually called positive self-esteem.

Your self-concept is a set of processes that creates a sort of map of yourself. This map works a bit like a travel agent, helping you get where you want to go, and have the kind of experiences that you want to have.

Your self-concept is made of experiences, which are selected from all the experiences you have had, and then assembled into a particular form. Since you can select and assemble your experiences in many different ways, you have immense freedom to modify your self-concept to make it more effective.
